Welcome to the library
The Library Law in Sweden requires that every municipality has a library. Libraries are open to all citizens and borrowing books is free of charge. At the library you can borrow books, audiobooks, CDs and videos. You can also read newspapers and magazines and search for information on the Internet.
The library card
You need a library card to join the library. Membership is open to everyone. Just bring some form of valid identification when you first visit the library and you will recieve your card at the Information desk. Children under 18 years of age must have a written consent of their parent or guardian.
The library card is a personal document. You are responsible for all loans registered against the card. As a parent or guardian you are responsible for loans taken out by your children.
Please notify the loss of a library card immediately so that it may be blocked. You will be charged a fee for a replacement card. Notify any change of name or address.
Always bring your card with you when visiting the library.
Loans
The lending period is normally 28 days. If you need the media for a longer period you can renew the loan if the item is not required by another user. You can also borrow films and CDs free of charge, but only for one week. You can also renew your loans by phone or over the Internet at The Salem Public Library Catalogue.
